By having muscle repair through abdominoplasty, can that also have a tightening effect to the internal vaginal wall as well?

I was told that when you had an abdominoplasty with muscle repair that it could also have a tightening effect to the internal vaginal wall, repair that area as well, is that true?

There is no way that the tightening of the muscular corset of the abdomen can reliably have any affect at all on the vaginal wall.

The muscle repair in the abdominoplasty is for the abdomen muscles, and do not change anything in the perineal muscles where the vagina is located. You will have a stronger abdominal wall that will be the improvement.

Hello and thank you for sharing your question on RealSelf.com.Unfortunately, you were provided misinformation.  The muscle tightening in a tummy tuck involves the rectus muscles that are just below the skin.  Tightening those cannot tighten the vagina which is in the pelvis.  One way to tighten the vagina is a vaginoplasty that is usually performed by a gynecologist.  There are also some non-surgical treatments as well.Tummy tucks provide wonderful and dramatic results.  You look more proportioned and youthful.  Many feel more sexy which improves their sexual relationship with their partner.  If you are interested in a tummy tuck, I would suggest you see several experienced, board-certified plastic surgeons for their opinions and recommendations.Good luck to you.Dr Spies

Sorry to disappoint you, but NO, abdominoplasty will not affect vaginal canal musculature, and internal vaginal dimensions will not change.  Effect of abdominoplasty on pelvic floor relaxation not studied, but I've had patients with improved sexual experience and orgasm after tummy tuck.  My explanation for this has been improved self confidence, and possibly changes in behavior of partner.  ThermiVA is a new proven non-surgical office treatment for vaginal tightening.

No It will not tighten the vaginal wall at all. In fact in some women who may have a pelvic wall weakness it can aggravate bladder control and heartburn due to increased intra abdominal pressure from the muscle tightening.Vaginal tightening is a separate procedure usually done by suitably qualified gynecologists There is non surgical option for vaginal tightening done with a laser device made by Cyanosure company.
