I have alar overhang which blocks the view of my nostrils from the sides, I want a surgery to have them lifted. But I have only found base-reduction alarplasty, which is not what I want. I've found info on this surgery being performed in the Philippines since this type of nose is more common there. I am a white woman and have not seen anyone else with a nose like mine here, but I'm wary about traveling to get a surgery there is minimal info on. Is this performed in the US?

Answer: Rhinoplasty Hello and thank you for your question. There are ways to help with what you describe but the illustration shows extreme alar retraction which would not be a good look. Something less extreme would likely be better. I recommend that you seek consultation with a qualified board-certified rhinoplasty surgeon who can evaluate you in person. Best wishes and good luck. Answer: Alarplasty is not typically performed to lift up somebody's thick nostril margin. When somebody has a condition, like image C in your diagram, this may be repaired by lengthening somebody's nose, or with an extended columella strut graft, ie Forward to columella and to increase profile nostril show to around 3 to 4 mm.. The thick nostril tissue is not something that can be lifted, in our experience. I hope this helps! Sincerely, Dr Joseph
