Although I don’t have much fat, I have had 3 kids and have muscle separation. I also have an umbilical hernia and laxity. Do I have enough laxity for a tummy tuck? If I have less skin will this make my scar higher? Also, how low down will this bring my tattoo?
Answer: Evaluating Tummy Tuck Candidacy Thank you for your question regarding whether you're a suitable candidate for a tummy tuck. Based on your description, which includes muscle separation, excess skin and fat, and stretch marks, I believe a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) would yield the best outcome for you. Liposuction alone wouldn't address the muscle separation, and given that you require surgery to correct your umbilical hernia, combining these procedures under the same anesthetic administration would be efficient. In your case, enough excess skin warrants a tummy tuck. Be aware that the procedure will result in a scar, with your original belly button positioned lower on your abdomen, which will be discussed in detail by your chosen plastic surgeon. Ideally, the resulting skin tension should be positioned low enough to be concealed by your typical underwear. Finally, you might want to consider a high lateral tension abdominoplasty for optimal results. While it may lower your tattoos slightly, the impact should not be significant. Thank you for your question about your candidacy for a tummy tuck. Sincerely, Dr. Katzen

Answer: Abdominoplasty Hi there, thanks for your question! I would reccomened an in-person consultation with a plastic surgeon to determine if you have enough skin laxity for a full abdominoplasty. If not, you are a canidate for a mini tummy tuck. Hope that helps! Thanks

Answer: Candidate for a Tummy Tuck Based on your picture you may be an excellent candidate for a full tummy tuck with muscle plication. This procedure will improve your abdominal contour by tightening your abdominal muscles in order to give the appearance of a flatter abdomen as well as comprehensively remove excess skin and fat that is contributing to your abdominal bulging and skin irregularities. If desired, coupling this procedure with liposuction to your flanks and upper back/bra rolls will provide you with a smoother contour and optimal results. A virtual or in person consultation with a Tummy Tuck specialist will provide you an accurate recommendation and pricing. Respectfully, Brandon Richland, MD

Answer: Abdomen You might be a candidate for a mini tuck. Do have the hernia repaired first. You can still have a low scar even with a mini tuck.

Answer: Tummy Tuck Candidate? Hi, Based off your photos you are a good candidate for a tummy tuck, but not a standard one. There are several types of abdominoplasties (tummy tucks) out there and each type is used to treat a particular concern. You would be a good candidate for a mini-abdominoplasty with umbilical transposition, rectus plication, and an umbilical hernia repair. With this particular type of surgery I would be able to keep the incision very low and well hidden beneath the underwear line, treat any loose skin below the umbilicus and some slightly above, tighten your abdominal muscles, and repair your umbilical hernia. This would keep your tattoo in the same position above the umbilicus and you would not have a scar around the umbilicus, only a horizontal scar above the hair bearing area of the pubis.
