Restylane Silk in scars. Should I have gone for a different filler?

Thank you for your question.  I use Restylane Silk, Restylane, and Juvederm Ultra with some frequency to help with depressed scars.  As the volume needed is typically small, I am usually combining this with other areas of injection.  Technique is far more important than choice of filler.  I often encourage patients to follow along during the injection with a hand held mirror (they don't have to watch the needle go in, but the immediate results that follow each small injection).  It gives them a sense of the degree of change.  For stubborn scars, I notice that they improve with each session.  If you are not happy with the result, I would recommend that you visit with a board certified plastic surgeon or dermatologist who has a high volume injection practice and who also has other non-invasive options available to address scars.

It is difficult to comment without seeing the severity and degree of your acne scarring.  Restylane silk is best for fine lines so it doesn't matter where those fine lines are.   All doctors have varying preferences when it comes to what type of filler they use for different issues/areas of the face.  The best way to assess and give
true advice would be an in-person exam.

Restylane silk is for fine lines. So it doesn't matter where those fine lines are. You shouldn't have bumps after unless these are from the bruising. The more superficial the injection., the greater the risk of bruising. If the lines had some depth then perhaps restylane would have been effective. Both last up to eight or nine months -- but with a boost at about four months! That is the fine print.

I find that bellafill is the best for acne scarring, silk and other HA fillers are fine but do not last or produce long term results.  You likely need a combination of lasers, fillers and needling.  Please see an expert who does a lot of acne scarring.  Best, Dr. Emer.

If done properly, restylane silk is a good choice. Fat is another. Lumpiness
is always a risk and you should return to the plastic surgeon so s/he can assess
it to see if it needs to be massaged. Of course, before the filler is injected
the scar needs to be released. That is actually the more important part. The
release with a blade, needle or other specialized instrument releases the scar
and the filler keeps it from rescarring.

Hello Sats,Restylane Silk is a very thin injectable.  The benefit is it can be injected very superficially for a superficial scar.  Usually, the scar is a little deeper than this so a filler such as Juvederm or Restylane can be used.  The more mobile the area, the quicker the Restylane Silk will go away.  You can likely expect about 6 months of benefit from it.  It isn't a bad choice but depending on what things looked like when you started, another filler may have been a better choice.  I hope this helps and good luck.

first choice when it comes to scars, however this does not mean you were
treated incorrectly. All doctors have varying preferences when it comes to what
type of filler they use for different issues/areas of the face. Like many of
the other popular fillers, Restylane Silk is made of hyaluronic acid, and will typically last at least 6-9 months. It differs in that it consists of smaller particles, making it ideal for delicate areas such as the lips and lip lines.

While most fillers on the market certainly
have the potential to improve acne scars, some will achieve a more significant, longer lasting result than
others. Recently I have found great success using a product called Bellafill, formerly
known as Artefill. Bellafill is a robust, semi-permanent filler, and the only injectable
that is FDA approved for acne scarring in the cheeks. In contrast to hyaluronic
acid fillers, Bellafill is made partially of bovine collagen, and therefore first
requires a skin test. If after a month the patient sees no adverse reactions,
they are cleared for treatment. For optimal results, I
typically recommend patients also complete a series of resurfacing treatments
such as Fraxel or eMatrix.

In terms of the bumps and bruising you are
experiencing, this is a perfectly normal response, and should resolve within a
week. For any future treatment, be sure to first consult with a board certified

Restylane silk is good for lip lines and superficial injections.  What you are describing like bumps needs to be addressed by seeing what you look like in person.
