Am I a candidate for tear trough filler? Deep and puffy under eye bags (photos)

29, 120 pounds, have always had bags under my eyes. It’s less the color but more the deep puffy bags! I want to get rid of them so bad had one person tell me im not a candidate a while back- would love to get another opinion

Hi @Han2266! The upper cheek is a major support for the under eyes. So when there is volume loss there, not only do the cheeks reflect this, but the under eye can as well with the development of tear trough and under eye hollows. Addressing the volume deficit in the cheeks with the use of a  volumizing hyaluronic acid filler would be a reasonable place to begin.  Best of luck, Dr. Nima!

Think of the upper cheek region as the foundation upon which the under eye region depends for its support. Just as a house without a proper foundation is not likely to stand,  the under eyes without its upper cheek support is prone to the development of bags and tear troughs. The use of a robust HA filler  properly placed in the appropriate location of the upper cheeks can not only recontour the cheeks to create a more feminine oval face, but typically improves the tear troughs and bags, as well. By contrast, directly injecting filler for the under eyes without prior treatment of the upper cheek would be like wallpapering the rooms of a house that has no foundation. You would be wise to consult with an experienced board certified cosmetic dermatologist. Best of luck.

Fillers are often used to help improve the appearance of the under eye.  They can be used to replace lost volume and improve contours.  An in person evaluation is always best, but from the submitted photos it appears you may be a candidate.  I've included a video on this topic that I hope you find helpful.

If you are someone that has under eye bags or dark under eyes, you are a candidate for under eye filler! The tear trough area is a sensitive area to treat and should be treated by experienced injectors with a high experience and knowledge of their facial anatomy. Always do your research before choosing your provider to insure they are experienced enough to do filler in complicated areas such as the under eye. In my years of injecting I have never had an issue with under eye filler and all my patients who receive this treatment absolutely LOVE it!
