What is causing my nasolabial folds and what is the best preventative treatment? (photo)

Hi! I am starting to get nasolabial folds and have a two-part question. 1. Is it possible to find the source of nasolabial folds? I am wondering if my dental structure (I have protruding canines) is heightening the problem. 2. Would getting a bit of filler help prevent these folds from becoming permanent? And if so, which fillers have the lowest rate of causing granulomas/ other side effects? Thank you!

I recommend fillers to soften the nasolabial folds themselves and also lift around the mouth and cheeks to build underlying anatomical support. In our practice we combine Sculptra with other fillers "layered" on top and lasers, skin tightening treatments such as Thermage, Fractora, and Renuvion (J Plasma), thread lifting,  and peels to get the most conservative, natural look. Nasolabial folds can be caused by several factors such as weight loss or gain and genetics.  Yours are very mild and don't necessarily warrant filler treatment.  You may want to focus on skin health instead.  Treatments such as microneedling and chemical peels can keep skin youthful and healthy.  We also recommend using medical grade skin care products like Transform MD and wearing sunscreen every day.

Nasolabial folds (NLF) are caused by loss of volume under the eyes, temples, and smile muscle movement over the years. The best treatment is with fillers for the under eyes and the temples to treat the lost volume and a very slight filler additive to the NLF area.
