Can I still take whey protein up to the day of Rhinoplasty surgery?

I was told to stop taking any vitamins, herbals, and aspirins 2 weeks before my rhinoplasty. I am big into working out already lost 20lbs and been taking whey protein everyday. Will it be a problem if I stop taking the rest of the supplements but stay on whey protein until 2 days before surgery?

When I discuss this topic with my patients prior to elective surgery I ask them to stop all medications other then prescription medications. Over the counter unregulated medicines are to be stopped two weeks prior and not to be taken again until 2 weeks after the rhinoplasty surgery.

I agree with everyone and think this supplement is ok and doesn't have any true blood thinning properties. Good luck with your surgery!

Patients are usually asked to stop all supplements, herbal medications and vitamins before any surgical procedure because many of those substances contain blood thinning agents that can cause more bleeding during surgery and increase risk of hematoma. I am not aware that whey protein has blood thinning properties, so it should be ok to take it before surgery. You can run it by your doctor if you want to be sure.

In our practice, we ask patients to refrain from all vitamins and herbal supplements and blood thinners 2 weeks before a rhinoplasty and 2 weeks after. The nose has lots of blood vessels in it, and it can bleed easily, especially after surgery. Many herbal supplements interfere with the clotting process in the bloodstream, so it's important to  following your doctor's orders the

Whey protein is probably ok as long as it does not have any other supplements. But to be sure, I would suggest discussing this with your surgeon.
