Difference between pulses and lines in Ultherapy treatment?

Question

Some clinic charge Ultherapy by lines, and some charge by pulses. Are they the same thing? I believe it’s one pulse per grid? Then how many pulses will be on one line? Thanks!

The pulses of hi focused ultrasonic energy that are delivered by Ultherapy are laid down in lines. Depending on the number of transducers used (there are different depths), the surface area of coverage, and the length of the transducer (long or short lines can be laid down) and the customized length of line programmed to be delivered all contribute to the total number of lines of treatment. When I treat, I tend to give very thorough treatments and rather than charging per line, our practice charges per area of treatment as well as the complexity of the case. Some patients may only need several hundred lines for good coverage of their cheeks, but a whole face and neck can be more than a 1,000 lines.

Hello kk2453!  Thank you for sharing your question.  Ultherapy lines are made up of pulses and will vary depending on whether a narrow or regular transducer is used.  Most practices charge by the lines as this can vary significantly person to person depending on the aging changes that you are trying to correct.  A minimum full face protocol is typically 800 lines, but can be increased to almost double if there are more significant aging changes.  You want a practice that customizes the treatment to your needs.  I would recommend an in person consultation with a facial specialist.  I hope this is helpful.All my best! Ultherapy treatment is tracked by the number of lines given. Each line contains a series of pulses. A typical full face treatment consists of 800 lines. However, everyone's face is different and will require a different number of lines. If patients or practices get hung up on charging per line or treating per line then that's a recipe for suboptimal results in my opinion. At our practice we concentrate on providing the extent of treatment necessary to cover the entire area of concern and give the most likelihood for an optimal result. It is impossible to predict how many lines an individual will need prior to performing the treatment. Anyone that does is likely providing a one-size-fits-all cookie cutter treatment. Pricing can vary, but each line has a specific amount of pulses. A full face treatment with the Amplify protocol is minimum 800 lines. During a full face lifting treatment, some of the lines are placed at 3.0 mm and some are at 4.5 mm. If you're concerned about your treatment, I recommend following up with your Doctor. Ultherapy is a great device for skin tightening, but keep in mind, a combination approach would give the most improvement with Ultherapy. I recommend Ultherapy with RF treatments, lasers, microneedling/PRP, J Plasma, nova threads or sculptra to get increased collagen, tightening and improve skin tone. Cost will vary. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Each line has a certain number of pulses in it - can't remember if it is 8 or 10.  You can hear the pulses as the treatment is being done.  Most treatments are done based on the number of lines that will be necessary.

There is also a difference between Narrow and Regular transducer in the number of "impulses". However, all treatments are based on lines and Ultherapy machine does not give you an opportunity to count individual impulses.
