What parts of the nose are included in a tip rhinoplasty?

I know that bone work is not part of a tip rhinoplasty but are the upper lateral cartilages included or is it just the lower lateral cartilages? Thank you in advance

Hi @Jcrzy83! This is an excellent question. A tip rhinoplasty solely addresses the lower lateral cartilages and alar rims. Typically, cartilage grafts are used.

A tip-plasty involves reshaping the tip of the nose only. It does not include the upper parts of the nose.

The tip rhinoplasty is to reshape and refine the tip cartilages only. The upper laterals are part of the bridge. But if something needs to be done there, that can always be included in the procedure. Be sure to see a rhinoplasty specialist for consultation.

You are correct that tip pasty involves the cartilages. However there are so many variations from simple to complex and each surgeon dies something slightly different.  And the use of cartilage grafts is often part of it.

Tip rhinoplasty involves procedures on the tip of the nose including distal portion of septum, lower lateral cartilages and allar rims. What does a tip plasty involve? The term tip plasty technically involves trimming and modification of the lower lateral cartilages only. It does not mean work on the nostrils or upper lateral cartilages or bone. However if a patient wishes to have work performed on the area above the tip, called the supratip, this can be added to a tip plasty as can a nostril tuck or “Alar plasty”.
