Does the overnight nurse come to my house?

My doctor requires an overnight nurse. I'm just confused, does this mean I stay at the facility with the nurse overnight. Or, does she come to my house and sleep overnight. Also, if she does stay overnight where does she sleep?

Thank you for your question.  You surgeon probably recommends that you hire a nurse to care for you overnight following surgery.  My advice would be to clarify this requirement with your plastic surgeon.  He/she may recommend a staffing service for nurses if this is the requirement.

Thank you for your excellent question.  Overnight nurses allow for greater patient safety, especially when a patient has no family members at home to monitor them.  Many surgical centers, and plastic surgery offices, have an overnight suite to accommodate patients the night of surgery. Speak with your plastic surgeon's office to get better details of their overnight nurse considerations.

Your doctor is concerned about your post operative care and who will be taking care of you in the first 24 hours after surgery.  Please contact him/her and clarify the situation.  Sometimes, we will offer a nursing service to help or we can "train" a responsible adult to take care of the patient in the first day after surgery.

In my practice, I recommend patients have a nurse ( recommended by our office)  stay with the patient overnight at his/her home or hotel. Depending upon the types of procedures performed, I recommend after care for my patients. This may be an overnight facility or a nurse who comes home with them.  This recommendation is made for your benefit and safety and family members are happy to have someone experienced with them too. The best doctor to ask is your own board certified plastic surgeon.  Also, my patients speak to the care giver prior to surgery and all questions are answered then. Best of luck with your surgery!
