No. Very dangerous. Too much local anesthetic would be toxic. General anesthesia is what I recommend because it is easier and more comfortable for the patient, especially with this type of procedure.

These operations can be performed without general anesthesia but not in the best interest of the patient. I personally would not offer this to you.

You can technically do these procedures under local however it is not always what is best for you and your results. Whether you are a candidate to have this done depends on the extent of surgery required. Safety is the number one priority in surgery. For this reason for the procedures you are considering I perform them while the patient is under general anesthesia. This is both for safety and the patient's comfort. In addition it gives the surgeon the opportunity to optimize your results.

Wow, that is really asking a lot.  Technically it can be done, but why?  General anesthesia nowadays is so safe, you go to sleep at the start of the case and you wake up and it is over.  No pain, no sounds, no smells, no discomfort.  What would happened if you moved during the local anesthesia or you had to urinate (pee), I can't imagine how uncomfortable that would be.  I'm sure it would comprise the result of your surgery.  Some people refer to a deep sedation as local anesthesia, I wonder if that is what is being proposed to you. I would be very clear on what type of anesthesia is being given and who is giving it.  Is this person board certified in anesthesia?  Is the facility national accredited?  Is the plastic surgeon board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery?  If any of these questions are no, then you need a second opinion.Good Luck!

Either of those procedures could be done under local anesthesia.  However, either procedure alone could require meeting or exceeding the safe local anesthetic dose.  A light, general anesthetic provides highly valued airway control and eliminates the risk of exceeding the recommended local anesthetic maximum dose.

Technically these surgeries can be performed under local anesthesia, however doing both at the same time it is pushing the limits, there is a safe total local anesthesia amount and when you try to do too much, usually translate into more discomfort for the patient. I do not offer local anesthesia for either one of this procedures by itself, much less for them combined.Some physicians, specially those that call them self "cosmetic surgeons" will offer these procedures under local in their offices for a simple reason :THEY DO NOT HAVE HOSPITAL PRIVILEDGES, because they are practicing something for which they did not receive the proper training. However it is true, there are some real plastic surgeons performing either one of these procedures under local anesthesia.Be sure you seek the help of a surgeon member of The American Society For Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, this will assure you of the proper training of the physician.

Although mommy makeover can be performed under TIVA and local anesthetics, it will require a good anesthesiologist who is very comfortable and facile on providing TIVA.  Not all anesthesiologist can perform TIVA well.  In most cases, mommy makeover is performed under general anesthesia with intubation requiring both the gas and IV anesthetics.  Any surgery and anesthesia should be performed by well-qualified, experienced physicians.  Please do your research and be safe.  Good luck.
