6 weeks after Juvederm injections, can Juvederm cause an extended burning sensation at site of injection?

I recently received Juvederm injections around my mouth, chin and cheekbones. A week after the the injections I developed an uncomfortable burning sensation to the injected areas similar to a sunburn. I am not experiencing any redness, rash or swelling. I’ve tried different moisturizers and creams but nothing seems to help. Has anyone else experienced this? It’s almost 6 weeks of discomfort. Could it be an allergy to juvederm?

Thank you for sharing your excellent question and I am sorry to hear of your injection issues.  Rarely nerve irritation after filler placement can cause hypersensitivity or a burning like quality.  This typically resolves with time but can take 6 weeks to 6 months.  I would revisit with your injector to discuss your concerns and to ensure no serious issues are taking place that may require dissolving some of the product.  Hope this helps.

The symptoms you describe are not typical after Juvederm injections.  The burning sensation may indicate nerve irritation.  It is best to return to your injector for an evaluation.

This reaction is highly unusual. You should ask your physician injector to contact medical affairs at Allergan . They will launch an investigation into this lot number and will be able to give your physician advise on how to treat you.
