Steroid nasal spray 3 months after septorhinoplasty? Is it worth it? Any complications or side effects along using?

I have a excessive amount of crusting 3 months post op. They are quite deep and big causing sharp pain at times. I have been doing rinses for a month but removing the crusting has had very little success. My surgeon recommended steroid nasal spray. Would you suggest using the steroid nasal spray over the saline rinse? Or continue on with saline rinse to stay safe as my internal/external nose is still very swollen. Would there be any side effects or precaution using the steroid nasal spray thanks

Thank you very much for enquire.It's too early to make value judgments with 3 months after a rhinoplasty.Swelling after a rhinoplasty depends of the surgery complexity.In this regard, the nasal swelling Post-op It can last from two weeks to two months.To reduce this swelling, I recommend you perform delicates daily lymphatic drainage massage therapy over the face (around the nose) avoid sun exposure, and take pain/inflamation pills, as your surgeron precribe you.Kind regards, Dr. Emmanuel Mallol Cotes.-

I recommend you following the recommendations of your surgeon during the healing process.  Every nose is different and heals differently.  Therefore, your surgeon is customizing the treatment plan based on your specific needs. I often prescribe nasal steroid sprays and recommend continuing the saline sprays as well to maintain moisture and cleansing of the nose. I wish you the best of luck.

If you have inflammation the steroids may help temporarily.  If not I prefer saline nasal spray. Best to really be evaluated in person. Good luck.

Thank you for your question.A combination of the saline nasal sprays and the steroid nose drops should help. The saline sprays will help dissolve the crusts and keep the nose lining moist, while the steroid drops will help reduce any residual inflammation within the nasal lining, and that should help reduce the amount of crusting that you are experiencing.Hope my answer is useful.Kind regards.

Hi,Side effects of steriod nasal sprays are minimum ( bleeding, head aches), however in your case I would recommend a combination of nasal lubrication such as Neilmed Nasogel and to continue with nasal dushes!Best wishesJ Tahery ChesterUK
