I had an alar rim reduction and my nostril rims are smaller than the rest of my nostrils. Is there a way to widen the rim again, even if its just by a little bit? Its very had to properly blow my nose and clean it without using a tip for the inner lower rim.
Answer: Alar rim Sometimes composite grafts from the ear can be used to correct excess narrowing of the alar sill or rim. A photo could help better assess your situation and recommend a solution.

Answer: Slightly opening constricted nostrils Hi there, Thank you for your question. It is possible to slightly widen the nostrils by adding back some skin and cartilage to the inside of the nostril. This technique is called a composite graft. The graft usually comes from the ear and it is small enough it does not significantly change the shape of the ear. My best advice is to consult with rhinoplasty surgeons to see what suggestions they make for you. Hope this helps! Good luck

Answer: Is there a way to slightly re-widen nostrils? Hello Alouette11,There are a few techniques to help widen the nostrils after previous over removal. One option involves taking some cartilage and skin from your ear. The other option involves moving some skin around and the corner of the nostril where it contacts the face. If there is scarring inside of the nostril there are also a few techniques to help. If you are considering this, I would recommend you consult with a facial plastic surgeon as the techniques required are more advanced than your routine rhinoplasty. It will also be important to realize that opening up the nostrils may affect the appearance of your nose which most are ok with in order to breathe better. This would all be discussed with you at the time of surgery. I hope this helps and good luck.

Answer: Making nostrils bigger or wider Making the nostrils bigger or wider is usually in the setting of too much nostril reduction in a previous surgery. This could be that the nostrils look too small, or the nostrils look good, but there is a functional problem (blowing/cleaning the nose). Composite grafts (cartilage and skin) can be taken from the ear to increase the size of the nostril. This is a complex and advanced technique. In the best situations, there will be improvement, but never a return to your original nostrils. I would consult with a revision rhinoplasty specialist who is familiar with this technique. In a consultation they can examine you and determine whether you are a candidate or not. I encourage you to involve your original surgeon. They can help you communicate with the other surgeon by sharing your medical records.

Answer: Rhinoplasty nostril Cartilage grafts can be used to rebuild and widen the substructure of the nostril. However, there must be adequate skin for the nostril to "stretch." Your plastic surgeon should be able to determine if this possible in their examination.
