Does Radisse attract water like HA fillers?

Thank you for your question. Radiesse is a unique filler in that it is composed of both a carrier gel and the calcium hydroxylapatite. The aqueous gel carrier has some hygroscopic (water attracting) properties, but this tends to dissipate within the first few months. The calcium hydroxylapatite does not attract water but rather stimulates collage synthesis to achieve its effects. Hope that helps!

The HA fillers are the ones that can attract water.  Radiesse is not an HA filler but rather a calcium based one, so it would not attract water.  Other fillers that could be used that do not attract water would be Sculptra or Bellafill.  These are both stimulating agents that normally require a series of treatments to obtain the desired result, but the result would last longer than Radiesse or any of the HA fillers.  

Not like HA, but they probably attract at some water.HA's work solely by attracting water (in addition to the volume of the material itself) while the primary mechanism of action of Radiesse is by stimulating collagen formation (calcium hydroxylapatite crystals form the basis of this filler).  However, since the crystals are within an aqueous gel carrier, it is possible that there is some degree of water retention also.  But it is not the primary method by which it provides correction.I hope that this helps and good luck,Dr. Alan EnglerMember of #RealSelf100
