Is massaging the only way to get rid of scar tissue or am I stuck with this lump? (Photo)

Hello, I recently had Bodytite on my back and flanks. I'm only 4 weeks out, but things are looking good so far as bruising is about 80% cleared up, skin is still a little sensitive. I have recently noticed on my right flank, right above my hip bone, I have a small log type bump. My doctor says that its scar tissue and I need to massage it daily. My partner who is a physican says there is nothing that can be done for Scar tissue, and he too as said to massage it.

Thanks for your picture and question.  Yes, massage works well to help improve areas of thickened scar after BodyTite treatment (or any liposuction).  It is very normal to see these areas as the swelling decreases.  Doing daily massage will help limit excessive scar buildup and you will see smoothing out over several weeks to months.

Great question. I am sorry for your post op difficulties. At 4 weeks post op you are still early in your recovery process. It can take up to 3-6 months to see your final results. Keep following up with your surgeon to rule out any fluid collection.

Thank you for your great question. It is very common between the 2 and 4 week post op period to notice a tightening feeling and the onset of lumps and nodules. These nodules represent the growth of new collagen. It is the bodys response to the thermal stimulation from the radiofrequency treatment. At about 6 weeks postop, your body enters a remodeling phase of wound healing. This phase can take up to a year to complete. During this phase, the body will start to dissolve some of the unnecessary scar tissue which has formed, leaving a soft, smooth result behind. Daily massage can help limit excessive scar buildup. The lump should start to smooth out in approximately 12 weeks if you continue to massage daily. Good luck!

Thank you for your question and posting your photo. It is not unusual to have areas that harden up following any form of liposuction. Massaging is appropriate. In addition, I would recommend a combination of surface RF such as Venus Legacy or Exilis combined with acoustic wave therapy. massaging of scar tissue particularly at this early stage is a good idea. compression is also useful at this point. if that doesnt work, steroids can be used, but this is rarely necessary

Actually you are only a few weeks out from surgery. The lumps may still get worse before the get better. Massage clearly does help. Scar remodels with pressure and massage so it will improve. Give it 6 months after bodytite.
