I have textured implants and family history of breast cancer. Will it be best for me to have an en bloc removal?

Without going into too much detail, en-bloc is a surgical term meaning the removal of diseased tissue (usually cancer) along with a certain amount of completely healthy tissue to make sure you have a significant amount of healthy tissue surrounding the cancer.Sadly, this has spread online as a treatment for issues with breast implants. You do not need or want an en-bloc capsulectomy. The only diagnosis this is indicated for is breast implant associated lymphoma. Your family risk of breast cancer does not increase your risk of breast implant associated lymphoma.The issue with textured implants is that they are linked to an EXTREMELY RARE breast implant associated lymphoma. This is so rare that the current recommendation is to leave textured implants in place if there are no obvious issues.If you would prefer to have them out for peace of mind, it is perfectly appropriate to remove the implant only and no capsule as the majority of capsules get resorbed when the implants are removed. If you would also like to have the capsule removed via a total capsulectomy (not en-bloc) then that isn’t wrong, but it’s definitely not required.
