Has PAH occurred from the CoolMini applicator?

In rare cases, Paradoxial Adipose Hyperplasia (PAH) can
occur. There is no way to guarantee what your reaction to the treatment will
be.  There have been millions of cycles
completed world-wide, with very few reports of PAH, the most common being in
the abdomen. It is important to follow up with your Coolsculpting provider to
ensure any questions or concerns are addressed in a timely manner.

The technology for Coolsculpting has changed to have less suction on the tissue, and more cooling over a shorter time period with cups or parallel plates that cool the tissue.  PAH is rare but more common with suction applicators.  Our Coolsculpting Practice Development Managers tell us that cases of PAH have not been reported with Cool mini.  There is a risk of temporary marginal mandibular nerve injury that can leave you with a crooked smile for a few weeks till it resolves.  This is also unusual, but your doctor should discuss all potential risks with you before performing the procedure.

With both the Cool Mini and regular CS, PAH is very very rare. Mostly these are case reports in the literature- I have not had a single patient with this issue. 

I don't think anyone can guarantee you that it won't or couldn't happen.  For the vast majority of people there is no issues with PAH from the treatment.  Good luck with your transformation.

The instances of PAH are very rare in contrast to the 4 million treatments performed world-wide. With the new CoolAdvantage applicators the reported cases of PAH have reduced even further. At CoolSculpting University I discuss the estimated incidence with the new Advantage applicators to be about 1 in 25,000. In regards to the CoolMini, there have been a few reported cases of PAH but the instances are far less than the applicators used on the body.

PAH, or paradoxical adipose hyperplasia, was a rare side effect of the older Coolsculpt devices, occurring most commonly on the abdomen.  I am not aware of any reports of PAH with the Cool mini. Lana Long, MD
