How can you get rid of a genetic double chin?

Question

I had a consultation today to get rid of my double chin that I've had my whole life. My doctor told me that I don't actually have any fat under my chin and that it's all actually a muscle, and that I have a small chin and jaw. He suggested fillers in my chin and jaw but upon demonstration, that gave little to no difference in my double chin. Are there any other solutions to this? It makes me feel absolutely awful about myself.

Hello, Thank you for your question. It is difficult to give an opinion without a picture. If there is fat in the area then CoolSculpting or Kybella would be a great option. The fat needs to be soft and pinch-able. I recommend that you visit another certified physician to determine the best treatment options for your case. Good luck!

HI and thank you for your question! Coolsculpting and cool mini helps with extra fat under the chin, but an in person consult is ultimately needed to palpate the tissue and measure with the template to determine possible treatment plan. We do see cases where people think what they need is something to reduce fat in the upper neck/below the chin, but once assessed we realize that most of the actual cause is coming from a lack of projection of the chin area. There are times when we recommend this is addressed first, and then we can fine tune with other treatments, such as cool mini. I recommend an in person consult with an experienced practice that offers both non-surgical and surgical options, they will likely be able to advise you more thoroughly. Best, Dr. Grant Stevens

Great question! This is hard to answer without seeing you in person, however, if you have soft punchable fat underneath your chin then you are  a good candidate for this procedure. I would recommend getting another opinion from a certified physician to see of they suggest the same.

Your double chin has to be able to fit inside the applicator for CS otherwise it won't be picked up during suction. You may be a good candidate for kybella. Some doctors do fillers on the chin, jaw area to further define the jawline.
