I have had my smooth silicone implants for 5 years. I have been experiencing enlarged lymph nodes in my neck, behind my ear down my neck to the collar bone, about 4 of them from pea sized to the size of a quarter they have persisted after a round of steroids. Is this related to my implants or BII. The implants do not feel or look abnormal from that I can see. Should I see a plastic surgeon? Picture is before 2 more nodes appeared
Answer: Lymph nodes No, you need to see your medical doctor, be examined, have blood work and possibly a lymph node biopsy to see what is the problem. You want to make sure you do not have something like lymphoma.

Answer: Swollen lymph nodes Hello, thank you for your question. I'm sorry to hear that you're dealing with these symptoms. Enlarged lymph nodes in the neck, especially if they persist despite treatment, should definitely be taken seriously. Lymph nodes can swell for a variety of reasons, and while it's possible that breast implants (especially in cases of Breast Implant Illness or BII) could be linked to lymph node issues, it's also important to consider other potential causes. Please see the attached video to address your concerns. While it's possible that swollen lymph nodes could be related to breast implants or BII, there are many other potential causes, and seeing a general practitioner or ENT is the best next step to get a clear diagnosis. If it turns out that your implants may be contributing to these symptoms, you could then be referred to a plastic surgeon for a more thorough evaluation of your implants and potential explant options.

Answer: Breast Implant Associated Lymphoma and Breast Implant Associated Squamous Cell Cancer Breast Implant Lymphoma- in short associated with textured implants. Smooth only with a history of implant placement Squamous Cell- recently recognised and very few cases. Associated with both smooth and textured implants. That is a very general overview. Usual symptoms have swelling, pain, mass and fluid around implant. A board certified plastic surgeon can examine you and guide you through your questions. An MRI would be helpful for you. Hope that helps.

Answer: Enlarged neck lymph nodes In the absence of signs of implant inflammation, lymph node enlargement is almost certainly due to some other inflammatory process. Generally speaking, breast implants do not effect neck lymph nodes even when they are the source of inflammation. Start by setting up an appointment with your PCP for a history and physical exam. Additional labs, imaging, and subspecialty referrals may be needed.

Answer: Is this related to my breast implants or BII? Hello @breekilg, thank you for your question. There is still a lot to learn about the effects of capsular contracture and the inflammation that occurs in the body in some patients. This inflammation causes a myriad of symptoms that are not related. It has been my experience that, when the implants are removed with a total capsolectectomy, the pain and discomfort start to subside and other symptoms start to diminish or disappear. If you are considering a breast explantation, consultation with a plastic surgeon who is experienced in this procedure is essential to ensure optimal results. Best wishes! Alan Gonzalez MD, FACS.
