I have had my smooth silicone implants for 5 years. I have been experiencing enlarged lymph nodes in my neck, behind my ear down my neck to the collar bone, about 4 of them from pea sized to the size of a quarter they have persisted after a round of steroids. Is this related to my implants or BII. The implants do not feel or look abnormal from that I can see. Should I see a plastic surgeon? Picture is before 2 more nodes appeared

Answer: Enlarged neck lymph nodes In the absence of signs of implant inflammation, lymph node enlargement is almost certainly due to some other inflammatory process. Generally speaking, breast implants do not effect neck lymph nodes even when they are the source of inflammation. Start by setting up an appointment with your PCP for a history and physical exam. Additional labs, imaging, and subspecialty referrals may be needed.

Answer: Is this related to my breast implants or BII? Hello @breekilg, thank you for your question. There is still a lot to learn about the effects of capsular contracture and the inflammation that occurs in the body in some patients. This inflammation causes a myriad of symptoms that are not related. It has been my experience that, when the implants are removed with a total capsolectectomy, the pain and discomfort start to subside and other symptoms start to diminish or disappear. If you are considering a breast explantation, consultation with a plastic surgeon who is experienced in this procedure is essential to ensure optimal results. Best wishes! Alan Gonzalez MD, FACS.
