Answer: Torn helix While there are no non-surgical treatments to address this problem, the cleft can be easily repaired surgically, likely in an office-based procedure under local anesthesia. The cleft can be recreated by excising the skin at the margin, and the cartilage, soft tissue, and skin can be reapproximated. I would recommend a consultation with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon.

Answer: Torn helix Thank you for your question.Stitches alone will not fix your problem. Skin has grown does into the tear and will prevent healing if the two edges are just stitched together. This can still be fixed with an office procedure but will require removal of the tissue inside of the tear and then moving both edges to meet. The skin could then be sutured together and your would have a scar at the site of the tear, but a significant improvement in your appearance and continuity of your ear rim. Please see a qualified ABPS board certified plastic surgery who will know exactly what to do.Good luck!
