Will bump on bridge of nose after rhinoplasty go away with pressure exercises? (Photo)

Question

I had a rhinoplasty 2 weeks ago and there is a prominent hump on the bridge of my nose. I was told today at my follow up appointment that I should do pressure exercises 10 times today and that it will go away. I am very scared that this is going to be permanent.

Thank you very much for enquire.It's too early to make value judgments with only 2 weeks after a rhinoplasty.Swelling after a rhinoplasty depends of the surgery complexity.In this regard, the nasal swelling Post-op It can last from two weeks to two months.To reduce this swelling, I recommend you perform delicates daily lymphatic drainage massage therapy over the face (around the nose) avoid sun exposure, and take pain/inflamation pills, as your surgeron precribe you.Kind regards, Dr. Emmanuel Mallol Cotes.-

But it's atypical to have a bump if a bump was reduced at the time of your surgery. The dorsum should be smooth even right after surgery, but it is also too early to tell how prominent it will be. It still could be swelling from the soft tissues. If it feels very hard (bone) then it is unlikely to disappear with pressure.

Hello. Small bumps on the dorsum in the early postoperative period will usually subside and may respond to pressure. However, if at 3 months it is still there, I would talk to your surgeon about a more permanent solution.

From your posted photo you appear to have a very nice rhinoplasty result at 2 weeks. With or without pressure exercises, you should see further improvement over time. Try not to worry and simply allow yourself an opportunity for full recovery. (Final results may take 6-12 months). Continue with all of your scheduled follow up appointments with your surgeon.

A residual hump on the nasal dorsum is not uncommon and caused by residual bony spicules that remain following rasping of the nose to lower a hump; this can be easily corrected under local in the office with a small rasping of the residual hump making sure to remove all residual bony spicules (or otherwise you will get the same problem again)! Don't ask me how I know this !!!! Good luck.
