Can I take DayQuil during my 2 weeks of pre op for Rhinoplasty?

I felt I was getting sick, so I took a DayQuil. I didn't see Vicks DayQuil on the 'Do Not'Am I allowed to or not? Kinda scared now... I took it to prevent from getting sick because i was told to not get sick or surgery will not be able to be performed.

If you are getting sick or feel like you are, over the counter medicine will not be effective, especially since most of the time, a virus causes the sickness.  You should avoid any medicine that contains aspirin, and you should really okay any medicine with your surgeon.

It is important to look at what ingredients are in the over-the-counter medications that you're taking, and then call your operative surgeon and aske them, since they will be performing your surgery.

Dayquil has Tylenol(anti-imflattory) and destremorphan, (anti cough medicine), which should be safe for surgery. But I am concerned that you are planning to take it for two weeks. If you are that sick, maybe you should delay your surgery.

Dear salcedo_nancy, I can answer for myself that this over the counter medication is not on my list of medications not to take prior to surgery. DayQuil contains tylenol and no aspirin or other medications that are problematic with bleeding during your procedure. However, this is not a preventative medication it is a medication taken when you have symptoms of cold or flu so contact your surgeons office for an evaluation, have them take your temperature, listen to your chest and discuss your symptoms and then you can obtain clearance for surgery.
