Recovery time for mild gyno surgery?

I am 20 years old and have mild gynecologist in my right breast. It's barely visible but I would still like to get rid of it as it has been bothering me for over 5 years now. I'm going out of state for football in a month or so, would I be able to get the surgery done and be able to play in a month or so? Would i likely only need lipo suction meaning a shorter recovery time?

Recovery time for mild gynecomastia surgery can vary, but most people typically resume normal activities within a week. Strenuous exercise may need to be avoided for a few weeks, and wearing a compression garment as advised by your surgeon can aid in the healing process. However, individual recovery experiences may differ, so it’s essential to follow your surgeon’s post-operative instructions.

You will need to be assessed in person by a board certified plastic surgeon, but no, I don't think that a month will be enough time for you to be back playing football after surgery. I would recommend that you wait until after the season is over. Best of luck.

Thank you for your question, and I hope you receive some helpful 
information. For very mild gynecomastia, your recovery may be shorter, but that will be your PS's preference on how he/she manages your recovery. If you are going away for football, recovery may be tricky because of your training so talk and review with your PS for sure. The techniques and recovery for this operation differ among
 plastic surgeons, but generally a combination of direct fat excision, 
and UAL/PAL liposuction are used to remove the excess fatty tissue. 
Sometimes in severe cases, excess/extra skin is removed.  Recovery can 
be variable depending on your surgeon's preference and the type of 
operation you have had. Generally, the first 10-14 days are for overall 
rest and recovery and no arm/chest repetitive or heavy movements and/or 
weights for at least 4-6 weeks.

It is very uncommon for me to offer treatment only to one side of the chest because the result isn't even if both are addressed. Treatment for gynecomastia is straight forward in experienced hands. Recovery isn't much of a big deal--a day initially and back to activities in two weeks or so. Without a photo it is hard to give you good advice. Learn more about the condition and you will benefit. Do your homework.

You cannot have surgery in the next month and hope to play tackle football. Play football and after this year is over, then go have this done. As to the procedure, it will depend on the nature of the tissue, whether thick fibrous breast tissue, or simply fat, or a combination.Talmage Raine MD

Thank you for your question. Recovery time following gynecomastia surgery in our practice is 3-4 weeks. We use an approach  that avoids postoperative distortion of the areola that creates an "operated upon" look.  Typically an incision is made around the areaola which allows access to the chest area for liposuction or direct excision of the gland beneath. Unfortunately, as this incision heals, it tends to adhere to the underlying tissue and create a distorted look to the nipple.We use an approach that avoids this entirely. Consult with a number of Board Certified Plastic Surgeons in your area and feel free to ask as many questions as come to mind.
