Thank you for the question. While it is possible to perform a tummy tuck at the same time as the facelift, it is often not advisable. These two different procedure have two different recovery processes and two different sets of complications that makes it difficult for the patient to deal with.Often we are combining breast work with tummy tucks and/or liposuction, because again, they have similar type of recoveries and complications.A facelift is often combined with fat injection or brow lift and blepheroplasties.Keep in mind that any surgery that takes beyond 6 hours of anesthesia will put the patient at much higher risks for complications.Make sure to see a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon that specializes in what you are looking for.Best Regards Nagi T Ayoub MD, FACS
Yes absolutely can be done. My partner Dr Ordon and I have done several of these surgeries together. The benefits are that you have 2 board certified surgeons operating and you can cut down the anesthesia time because we can operate simultaneously. Make sure you ask the right questions. I hope this helpsRitu Chopra MD
No, it would not be a good idea. Both are in depth procedures that require a great deal of surgery time. I don't know of any reputable plastic surgeon who would do both at the same time. It's dangerous. Best, Dr. Nazarian
They can feasibly be performed at the same time however this is a lot of surgery for one setting and I would not recommend it. It is best to see a plastic surgeon for a consultation to determine the extent of each procedure however in general these two surgeries require significant time and there are concerns for safety.
If your surgeon is able to do both procedures expertly in a reasonable amount of time then yes. Some surgeons are technically more adept than others in keeping operative times down. Shorter operative times are associated with less complications in many series. Discuss this with your surgeon
Depending on your health this is not a real problem. The combination of procedures would be fairly uncommon at least in my practice but I have done this. The advantage is that there will be one period of convalescence. The abdominoplasty is much more physiologically significant in the facelift.
A facelift and tummy tuck are two time consuming operations that require great attention to detail. In my opinion and practice the two are not performed together.
It is technically possible to combine multiple procedures, such a facelift and a tummy tuck. However, whenever possible, it is advisable to not exceed 4-5 hr of surgical time in an elective surgery as it raises the risk of complications. As each surgeon is different and some take longer than other, it is best to speak to your surgeon about how long each procedure would take.In our office, a facelift takes 2-3 hrs, while a tummy tuck can take 1-3 hrs, depending on your body size. If you are an otherwise healthy and fit woman, combining these two procedures would be an option.
I have received this request a number of times, but have never felt it was a good idea. Recovery from a Facelift requires a minimum of straining and well regulated blood pressure to prevent a hematoma. A tummy tuck is a significantly more painful procedure which deserves its own recovery. The pain factor tends to limit mobility and the risk of DVT rises with abdominoplasty. In my opinion, the two procedures do not mesh well from a recovery standpoint.
Hello,Thank you for your question. Having these two major surgeries together will make for a much more uncomfortable recovery period, but the time required for the surgery can also affect your risk of complication. Many Plastic Surgeons will not be comfortable having you under GA for longer than 5-6 hours if not necessary.I recommend that you talk with your Plastic Surgeon about your desired procedures and what your best options are.Take care
I would recommend separating these procedures, unless you were having a mini facelift. For a full facelift the time for that procedure in addition to the time for the tummy tuck is excessive.
I would recommend that you follow-up with your surgeon for an examination. Swelling should improve with time and if you are suddenly experiencing increased swelling this warrants an examination. You may have a reaction to a topical medication, tape, etc or early infection that should be...
