Is it safe to lipo the lateral chest walls and the back bra line when performing a breast reduction? (photo)

 Congratulations on your approval for a breast reduction. Liposuction is quite safe with a breast reduction. This is the best time for you to have  liposuction since you want a tummy tuck also. Liposuction of the back and tummy tuck can be problematic so breaking your procedures up into two phases is a great idea.

Not only is it generally safe, but is preferred by many of my patients and myself to do liposuction nearby rather than two surgeries as long as the surgery is not overly long. Discuss fully with your plastic surgeon including risks and benefits. 

Thanks for this question.Breast reduction can safely be combined with other procedures as long as you are healthy and your team is experienced.We frequently combine breast reduction with another procedure, most commonly a tummy tuck. Liposuction of other areas can thus easily be done. There is some added risk by doing the back rolls as you need to be turned during the anaesthetic. This can easily be managed by an experienced team with the right equipment.

Liposuction is a useful adjunct in the majority of my patients undergoing a breast reduction. It helps to reduce much of the excess fatty tissue on the side of the chest, and allows me to shape the lateral side of the breast without creating an excessively long incision. In most women the skin here redrapes very nicely after it has been debulked with liposuction. Liposuction can cause some added tenderness and firmness in the first few weeks after surgery, but the results are usually worth it. It certainly is considered a safe procedure to perform with a breast reduction. 

We often perform the combination of breast reduction and liposuction on the same patient for the lateral chest wall and the back.  There are additional nuances of course you should discuss with your surgeon to make sure your'e a good candidate.

Thank you for your question and photo.  The blood supply to the affected areas are separate and should be safe for liposuction at the time of your procedure.  This is not an uncommon request. Even though there is insurance coverage for your breast reduction procedure, there usually is still a charge for the facility and anesthesia for the cosmetic part of the surgery that is not covered by your insurance. Congratulations on your approval for breast reduction surgery; this operation tends to one of the most patient pleasing operations performed. Assuming you are a good candidate for liposuction surgery ( diet and exercise resistant adipose tissue of localized areas, "covered" by good quality skin elasticity), then additional surgery will likely be possible/safe.   Your plastic surgeon will be in the best position to advise you more specifically.
