It is always best to schedule your surgery with a surgeon in your area as post op care will continue for about a year. However, if you are doing it out of town, you will need to wait at least 7-10 days before getting on a plane as the surgery can increase your risk for a blood clot. My patients come in a one week, two weeks, four weeks, and 8 weeks when photos are taken. This is in the absence of any complications or concerns.If you are going OOT to have your surgeon, you should plan to stay at least a week and have a plan B in case you have problems when you return home. There are many good surgeons close by and its always recommended that you stay close to home for the 'just in cases'.
