Advan appears to be used for hypergigmentation. If that is your issue it should help. Normally an incision in the submental area heals very well and is not noticeable.Best of LuckDr. J
The effect of the steroid cream on a scar will be relatively modest but certainly should be used if your plastic surgeon thinks it is your best interest. There's not really much downside to it anyway.
Typically scars are treated with silicon gels, pressure bandages, or including silicon tape. Additionally treatment with a non ablative laser such as the V beam should improve the appearance of the scar
A steroid cream applied topically can help with some scars. If the scar is hypertrophic or large there are many other options: injections with steroids and/or 5-FU and lasers. A picture of the scar would be helpful.
It would be very helpful to have a photo of the scar in question. Whether or not it could be treated topically depends on how it looks. In general, I use topical silicone stickers or silicone cream, and if I am going to use steroids, it will be an injection into the scar. I question whether or not topical steroid cream will penetrate into the scar sufficiently. Steroids can have unwanted side effects, so these must be considered. Another possibility is scar revision in the office. Really, without photos it is too difficult to guess. Post some photos and we might be able to give a better idea.Best of luck!Dr. SubbioBoard-Certified Plastic SurgeonNewtown Square/Philadelphia, PA
I have never needed that product for a scar under the chin, but if there is darkness in the scar, it may be helpfulBest of luck
Most scars in the submental area heal very well. Please enclose photos. I think it would really help for all of us in the community to guide you.
Thank you for sharing your concerns. My preferred cream for scars after facelift is a moisturizing cream with SPF >30. There is different scar cream which are beneficial such as silicone gel, Mederma, Dermatix ,,,Steroid cream such as Advantan is rarely used by me unless there is signs of hypertrophic scar or keloid. Good luck
Hello Arrivederchiroma,Advantan is a steroid cream. It helps with inflammation of your scar. I prefer injections when I see a scar not healing the way I want it to, but if you surgeon prefers the cream, it is important to follow his or her instructions as they are recommended based on experience with his or her patients. Getting too many chefs in the kitchen with opinions on what to use can lead to a poor outcome. I hope this helps and good luck.
The typical patient will heal in 2 weeks, but that healing is just a superficial coverage of the open area. It will take several weeks to feel back to normal as the tissues continue to grow and thicken. Be sure to discuss this with your surgeon and stay away from foods that irritate/burn...
