Question

Yesterday I had fat transfer and threading. I am so swollen and my face looks distorted and there are bumps on each side of my face. I have been searching the internet haven’t seen anything that looks close. I have a wedding in 29 days (that’s why I did this) . I’m so scared my face won’t look right.

Keep in mind, swelling is typical after fat transfer and can last 3-6 months. I recommend prp and/or sculptra, depending on the area, to help improve final results. Icing the area, predisone, ibuoprofen and venus legacy treatments can help reduce swelling. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

First, I would never encourage any procedure less than a month prior to a wedding because everyone reacts differently and swelling is possible. A lot of things can be implicated including whether you are on aspirin or other medication which would be an indicator of bleeding and swelling.  Second, surgical technique. Third, whether you applied ice diligently to your face. Swelling hits its peak 48-72 hours after a procedure so I strongly recommend that you start ice packs and stay in touch with your physician.

I discourage people getting almost any procedure a month before an important event. Its just the way the world works. If you have an event the worst thing will happen. If you don't it doesn't. You didn't say how much fat was injected. The indents in your face will probably go away since threads don't do very much. The swelling depends on how much fat was placed. Since you have no easy  options other than waiting, you need to wait.

Thank you for your question. It is not uncommon for swelling to occur after fat transfer, especially depending how much fat was injected into the face. This swelling can last for days to weeks after the surgery. It is difficult to make an assessment and recommendations based on photographs alone. We recommend you maintain close follow-up with your provider and let them know your concerns with possible need for re-evaluation. If they believe you may have more swelling than expected, they may be able to offer management options such as a course of steroids to help the swelling improve faster.
