I've lost a lot of weight but am left with a "sagging" stomach, which I had when I was underweight also. How would I rid this? Does it require an abdominoplasty? I go to the gym several times a week and am careful with my diet. Is surgery not even necessary/would this eventually go away on its own? I'm hoping to at least improve my bellybutton from the "frown" to an "o" shape.
Answer: Belly button shape and loose skin First, I want to congratulate you on losing so much weight, and maintaining your weight loss. Saggy skin can only be tightened up by removing the excess skin, and that means a tummy tuck would be the most suitable option for you. A tummy tuck would also reshape your belly button, giving it a better shape.

Answer: Sagging fat or skin after weight loss; how do I get rid of it and improve belly button shape There are a variety of tummy tucks that can produce a good cosmetic result in the appropriate patient: a mini tummy tuck, a modified with an umbilical float, or a variety of a full abdominoplasty, all of which may, or may not, include tightening of the muscle and liposuction. Generally if there is significant loose skin above the umbilicus (belly button), a full tummy tuck will result in a greater correction and better outcome.Keep in mind that following the advice from a surgeon on this or any other website who proposes to tell you what to do based on two dimensional photos without examining you, physically feeling the tissue, assessing your desired outcome, taking a full medical history, and discussing the pros and cons of each operative procedure would not be in your best interest. I would suggest you find a plastic surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and ideally a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) that you trust and are comfortable with. You should discuss your concerns with that surgeon in person.Robert Singer, MD FACSLa Jolla, California

Answer: Sagging fat or skin after weight loss; how do I get rid of it and improve belly button shape? (photos) To tighten loose skin and to reshape the belly button, I would suggest a tummy tuck. This will tighten your stomach muscles and remove excess skin and fat. It can also be combined with liposuction for further contouring. Good luck!

Answer: Loss of skin elasticity after weight loss Excellent question. Often when individuals undergo a significant weight loss there is residual skin that does not contract back down as one would expect. This is often due to the inherent loss of skins elasticity. There are some minimally invasive procedures which do have some mild skin tightening associated with them but they are often under powered to provide the level of correction people are looking for. Often a surgical excision of the skin redundancy is required.I would suggest a consultation with a Plastic Surgeon who can go over what option best suits your needs.

Answer: Tummy Tuck Congratulations on your weight loss! It is difficult to tell without personally evaluating you, but people who have especially slack skin in their midsection and abdominal muscle weakness need more than what diet and exercise alone can offer. Typical candidates for a full tummy tuck are women with drooping abdomens after pregnancy, women and men who've lost a great deal of weight, menopausal women, or older people with loose skin due to age. In the tummy tuck, the skin from the rib cage down to the pelvic area is tightened, and the navel is moved up and secured in a new position. A mini-tummy tuck is especially effective for people who look pretty good from the navel up. The main difference between the 2 procedures is that the mini-tummy tuck doesn't require moving or reconstructing the navel and the incision is shorter than the one made in a full tummy tuck.
