I have some scar tissue forming from a dog bite. Can I still get lip fillers? (photos)

Question

The pen is pointing to the "lump" or the drooping. I was bit by a dog on my mouth. I have what is I believe to be scar tissue forming where the stitches were. Can I still get lip fillers to even out the slight drooping my lip has now? And how long should I wait? This happened just a little over a week ago

Before you get fillers, I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a cosmetic dermatologist for after care. I recommend Silagen + Bioshield to promote healing. Any scarring can be improved with lasers, fillers, subcision and microneedling/prp. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

bway5898.   I am afraid it is too early to do anything at this time since your injury was such a short time ago. Allow all swelling and scarring to settle down, at least two or three months before you consider fillers for Lip Augmentation. Consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon to verify my recommendation. Good luck.

Once you are fully healed from the bite you can most likely get filler. I’d wait 6-12 months after injury. Be sure you are seeing an experienced injector as your anatomy will be altered due to the trauma of the dog bite. Best of luck!

Thank you for your question. I believe you can have lip fillers once your lip heals, but ultimately, a consultation is required. Be sure to visit an experienced injector. They can best evaluate your lip and determine whether or not you're a candidate.

I am sorry but it is too early to have your lips injected with filler at this point. You need to wait about three months to see how the scar from the bit looks and then you will be able to assess it.  Your lip fillers will be more complicated because of scar tissue so please consult a board certified dermatologist who is an expert in lip fillers.  Best, Dr. Green

Unfortunately, I believe you need to wait until the scar has healed before having filler treatment. The scar is too fresh to treat now.

Thanks for the question and photos.
It depends on why you are having lip fillers...
If you have been considering them for a while then just give it a few weeks for the scar to heal and then you would be fine to proceed.
If you are having fillers to correct how things are after the dogbites then I would certainly wait a few months. It is normal for your lip to be swollen and lumpy at this stage and over the next few months this will settle. If you still have a residual droopiness after a few months then I would use fillers to correct this.

Hi, I have performed many lip augmentation procedures using dermal fillers or lip implants for over 30 years. From the photos, your lips are a bit thin.  Following my beauty principles, the lips should be full with the upper lip approximately 75 % the size of the lower lip for the lips to appear balanced. The lips can be augmented using a dermal filler or a Permalip implant.
Dermal fillers and lip implants offer a much more reliable volume for augmentation of the lips than permanent fillers or fat injections which are associated with increased, unwanted, side effects. Since you had the injury repaired with stitches, I'd wait for 1 month for the area to heal so the dermal filler and subsequent swelling doesn't cause the sutured line to re-open.
