I’m immune to Botox - yes, I really am. Will Jeuveau work for me ?

Hi roseannc, thank you for your question. Unfortunately, like all other neuromodulators in the US (Botox/Xeomin/Dysport/Daxxify), Jeuveau uses Botulinum toxin type A; and chances are, that’s the actual ingredient to which you have built a resistance/immunity. There’s no way of knowing for sure what your results would be without trying out the product, but you would likely have similar longevity issues with Jeuveau. Best of luck!

Resistance to Botox is rare but I have seen it in a few of my patients who gradually need more units to see the same response and it is often attributed to resistance/immunity to Botox. In such cases, some patients may respond better when switching to other neuromodulators, so you can try Jeuveau (or Dysport/Xeomin) and hopefully you will see better results. Botox and the other neurotoxins may become less effective over time in some patients. One theory (unproven) is that antibodies build up to the Botox, neutralizing it before it gets to the nerve ending. Unfortunately, switching to a different brand of botulinum toxin usually doesn't make this problem go away. In general, patients will require higher doses (at greater expense). Unfortunately, the toxin effect won't last as long even at higher doses. Nonetheless, trying Jeuveau is reasonable, since the other toxins aren't working well for you. Jeuveau is a great product that behaves similarly to Botox. However, most of our patients do seem to get the longest duration of effect from Dysport. Good luck.

Great question.  It is difficult to tell for sure but it is worth a try.  They are different chemicals structurally so you may not be immune to the #newtox.  I wish you well!

The only way to see if Jeuveau will work it to try it. We have seen people grow “tolerance” to certain products, and have a better response to others. Jeuveau seems to work within 2 days, and it’s onset is strong. Hope this helps! Dr Joseph 

While Botox Cosmetic, Xeomin, Dysport and Jeuveau all have the same core neurotoxin molecule, 3 of the 4 products have different proteins surrounding the molecule and Xeomin doesn't have any associated proteins and is just the core naked toxin molecule.  That being said, they are all antigenically different and you may have a better response to Jeuveau because your body may see it as "new" and respond better.

It’s quite common to encounter the problem of “ immunity” after the use of the same neurotoxin for some period of time. Although there is no actual test that we can do, the clinical observation of a patient complaining of having less and less effect for progressively shorter period of time is likely caused by a resistance immune related. To avoid this problem in our practice we routinely invite our patients to rotate neurotoxin. Jeuveau has been successfully added to our list and seems to have helped a lot of patients overcoming this issue.

Thanks for your question. It is hard to say whether Jeuveau will work for you or not, but there's probably no harm in trying it. It is also made of the basic botulinum toxin molecule, but does have a slightly different binding protein that is safe, and all my patients have had success switching between different products. I would not be able to guarantee that Jeuveau will definitely be the one product that finally works, but if you have a trusted dermatologist, discuss this with them and they might be willing to try it with you. Hello, thank you for your question. When you say you are immune to botox - do your effects just not last long enough? When you switched to Dysport and Xeomin were you getting any effect? If you have not had any adverse reactions, I would think it is worth a try to see if you like how Jeuveau may work for you. I have been using Jeuveua on my patients since it first came out and have been very happy with the results. I use all of the products in my office, and while there are similarities there are also differences. While I do have a few patients who preferred their prior product (Botox, Dysport, Xeomin) compared to Jeuvuea, most of my patients have been very happy with Jeuveau and felt like it kicked in fast and lasted longer. This is of course anecdotal from my practice and in the short time that Jeuveau has been available. In your case, barring any contraindications to the medication, you may be happy to try it at least once!

They are slightly different so if you are not getting a good response to Botox units to get a good result with Jeuveau. I have treated over 500 patients with Jeuveau and have found 25% find Botox better, 25% find Jeuveau better, and 50% cannot tell the difference. The majority have been using Jeuveau because it is less expensive. The risks seem to be the same including bruising, brow and eyelid droop or need for higher dose. I also found some people who feel they are immune really need a higher dose to treat them successfully.
