I was given Jeuveau "Newtox" instead of Botox for my first ever treatment. Crows feet back after one week. Advice on next steps?

At a first time Botox treatment in my late 40's I was given Jeuveau "Newtox" with no explanation. It's been a week since the injections and while my 11's look better, my crows feet have returned after looking better around day I have some pain around my left eye. What advice can you give me at this point? I am seeing another dermatologist tomorrow to explain the situation, but appreciate any advice offered here as well. Thank you!

We have been using Jeuveau for a month, and it appears to be a potent and fast-acting wrinkle reducer. Do you know how many units you received? In our practice, we encourage a follow up visit one week after injection to assess results. If an area was under-treated, a dose adjustment may be offered. Consider discussing this with your injecting doctor on a follow up visit. Hope this helps. Dr Joseph

Typically patients will begin to see improvement from their treatment after 5-7 days.  Final results can take up to two weeks.  If you have concerns about your treatment I encourage you to return to your injector for an evaluation after two weeks.  It may be that more product is needed to accomplish the desired effect.

Schedule a followup visit with the first provider between day 10-14 to evaluate if enough neurotoxin, regardless of brand, was used across the areas treated. All my new toxin patients are seen at two weeks and I am not surprised if we have to add a few units to get the desired result. I would rather under treat new patients and add extra at their follow up visit than over treat and have complications. If a patient has followed my initial dose recommendations the extra units at followup are complementary. The total dose required (initial plus top-up) will then be the starting dose at their next treatment in 3-4 months. This may or may not be the policy at the clinic you were treated at, but generally providers want satisfied long term clients and will work with you to obtain a great result. Best, Dr. Tkatch

It can take up to 14 days to see the peak results of your botulinum toxin treatment. I would wait a little longer before following up with your injector.

Neurotoxins take 2 weeks to take full effects , returning  to any physician at this point is premature . Your original injector will have a better idea of the degree of improvement after 2 weeks has passed. As mentioned your 11s got better so the toxin is working
