Nose Cracks when Touched?

Question

i had a incident with my nose acouple of years ago the car door it slammed on my nose and started bleeding for while i can't remember if there was swelling or not. since then i have a hump which i never had and when I touch my nose i can crack it to one side and it will stay like that for a while. is my nose broken? I've never got it checked before and i hate my nose now. my mom doesn't want to pay for it so could it be free with insurance? thanks

Hello,

	Thank you for the question.  Some insurance companies will cover the repair of a nose injury after trauma.  You may have fractured your septum and that has lead to the shape change and the clicking/cracking that you describe.  You will need to have a consultation with a plastic surgeon to be evaluated.  They can also help you submit a letter to the insurance company.

There is a good chance that you have suffered a fracture of the nasal bones and/or the nasal septum. Medical insurance will often cover repairs of such injuries that are associated with function problems such as nasal obstruction, but generally will not cover changes in form that are not designed to address functional issues.

	thank you for your question.  If you sustained a nasal bone or cartilage fracture with the injury, then this may be covered by insurance.  You can be seen by your primary care doctor and a CT of face can be ordered.
