How much weight or sizes should I expect after lipo and a tummy tuck? Male, 32, 205lbs

The shape is heavily dependent upon how the TT is performed and how effectively the sides and back are liposuctioned. This is difficult to answer without pictures. Liposuction is not a weight loss procedure, rather it is for sculpting and defining and removing problem areas that cannot be removed with weight loss and diet / exercise alone. With skin laxity, a tummy tuck or lifting procedure could be performed at the same time. For best results, I recommend a hi definition procedure like VASER liposuction. I use VASER HI DEF with ThermRF and fat grafting to get the most fat removal, skin tightening, contour and definition. This combination will give you the most toned result, if you're a candidate. Dear alex.arellanno24,it is hard to predict how much weight will you loose without an examination. Usually there is a 5000cc limit for a liposuction. Thanks for the question, liposuction should be considered a body contouring and not a weight loss operation. That being said, my patients go on a meal plan we have had designed for post operative healing and with that our patients tend to lose about 8 lbs and 4 dress sizes. Men are different, probably because they dont follow the meal plan like the woman do and men tend to wear their pants at different levels so its harder to predict changes in pant size

It is difficult to say how much weight or size change will occur after a lipo and tummy tuck. This depends on how much fat is in the waist area as well as the thickness of your skin. It can range anywhere in the single to double digits (lbs). Liposuction and tummy tuck procedures are not intended for weight loss but for contour improvement. You should also expect swelling after the surgery for several weeks. It is hard to say how much your weight and pant size will change after this type of procedure. Certainly the more fat and hanging skin you have to remove the greater the difference will be. If you have an abdominal pannus that hangs down your weight change could be 10 pounds or more. If it does not hang down the weight change would be significantly less. There are a lot of things that contribute to your weight such as intra-abdominal fat that are not affected by a tummy tuck with liposuction so the weight loss from surgery is frequently less than you would expect. If your weight is volatile varying up and down 30 to 40 pounds or more you should not have the surgery until your weight has been stable for many months.

As you know, liposuction and tummy tucks are not weight loss operations. Rather they are body-contouring procedures. In order to minimize the risk of any type of complication after liposuction we usually have a maximum amount of fat that we feel can be safely removed at one operation. While the amount various from person to person, we usually do not remove more than about 5 liters of fat when the surgery is done on an outpatient basis. Since you are a relatively large individual it would probably be reasonable to increase that limit to about six liters. That translates to a weight of about 13 lbs. However, your tissues become swollen after lipo and your body retains sodium and water – so you may not see the change in weight for quite some time after surgery! Wishing you the best.

Let me try to fill in some grey zones for you for your question is a common one. First and foremost liposuction contours areas very precisely, and even though you can have amazing changes in your contours this usually represents very little "total body weight". The key heads up is that the day after surgery you will weigh more due to all the fluid we place in the tissues during the surgery. A liter of fluid (doctors talk in metric so a liter is about on fourth of a gallon) weighs 2.2 pounds.  So if we remove two liters of fat that's 4.4 lbs., but we might have placed 3 or 4 liters of fluid with numbing medicine, and medicine to decrease bruising in right before we started the sculpting so we may have given you 6.5 or 8 pounds of fluid so you weigh more the next day. Over the next several weeks you get rid of that extra fluid so the first week or two you might loose 4 or 5 pounds, but that's mostly salt and water weight. Most patients if they are well motivated continue to loose some weight, some weight from burning more calories as they heal up the injured liposuctioned areas, and some weight because they are invested in looking their best so they are a bit better about their diet and exercise. Think in terms of contouring, as well as being disciplined in your recovery and the extra weight loss will come over the months following the surgery. Let's hope that helps.

Hello alex.arellano24, you should not expect considerable weight loss after liposuction and tummy tuck. However your pant size may decrease one or two sizes. Good luck.

I try to avoid talking about pounds or inches when it comes to liposuction.
The fat removed with liposuction is very focused in comparison to someone's entire body fat distribution and amounts.
Even if 75% of the fat is removed with liposuction of the abdomen and flank area is your body still carries fat in many other areas.
One of the largest determinants of what type of change you can expect it's related to what percentage of your fat is intra-abdominal or visceral fat(fat that's deep to your muscle layers around your internal organs).
Sometimes the removal of large Pannus(The loose skin that hangs down off your lower abdomen) can take off quite a bit of weight.
The removal of the Pannus can take off between 10 to 40 pounds in certain individuals.
One thing that is very important when performing abdominoplasties on the weight-loss patients is the need to continue skin removal around the sides and often onto the back.
This may require patients to be turned face down during the surgery while under anesthesia.
Some plastic surgeons are hesitant to turn patients face down under General Anastasia. This can be especially true on someone who weighs 200 pounds.
The final outcome if insufficient skin removal can be somewhat disappointing.
Sometimes it's possible to remove the extra skin left behind after an abdominoplasty(The extra skin left behind are often called dog ears) as office-based procedures using local anesthesia.
In my opinion the great majority of men who have abdominoplasties should not have muscle tightening.
Muscle separation requiring a muscle tightening comes almost exclusively from pregnancies and it's usually only required for women who have had children.
Avoiding muscle tightening during a male abdominoplasty makes recovery much much easier.
It also illuminates a worsening mismatch between the size of the skin envelope and underlying musculoskeletal structure.
In other words muscle tightening will make your abdomen smaller while your skin is still too big to fit your body.
Each plastic surgeon has their own ways of doing things and I'm in no way of doing these procedures.
If you're scheduled for surgery then continue working with your plastic surgeon.
If you have not scheduled surgery then consider having more than one consultation.
I find patients having several consultations are more informed and can make better decisions.
