If you like the swollen plumped look, then you will need more volume to achieve that.  The swelling typically goes down to the level immediately after your lip injections, but may take a few days to get there.

It is common to get swelling after fillers into the lips. It is not normal to have irregularities or severe swelling. If you are unhappy you should speak to your physician and have the area injected with hyaluronidase, an enzyme that reverses the hyaluronic acid filler. For the next injections, consider Restylane Silk with cannula injection, this technique will limit the pain, swelling or bruising after the filler placement. My experience with Juvederm is that patients will experience a bit of swelling - perhaps an exaggerated result - for a few days.  By the end of a week, it should be down to where it'll stay for a few months.  The time to judge the results is around 5-7 days.

Thank you for your question. Lip swelling after Juvederm injection is common. Typically, swelling can last several days to weeks. Once the swelling resolves, you can see what your lips will look like and if you are happy with the results.Best of luck

Hi.All lips that are injected with the HA fillers will swell initially. The product loves water. Anything that retains water will make your swelling worse, high salt foods, heavy meals, alcohol.   All these things happen initially. I tend to tell my patients that they will have remorse the next day due to the significant swelling. Then after about 5 days the swelling will go down and your lips, yes, will be smaller, but not by too much. You can add more if desired, but I would wait a good two weeks. 

Thanks for your question.  All fillers can cause some swelling, but this tends to be more pronounced in the lips.  It can take a 2-3 weeks for all the lip swelling to recede, revealing the true results of the filler injected.  Icing the lips can help to reduce the swelling.  If in a few weeks time you feel your lips could use some more volume, you can always go back to your original injector and see what they can do for you.  Best of luck!

I always tell my patients to not love their filler
injections for 2 weeks. Swelling is very common and sometimes immediate. It can
last 3-7 days and a good idea is to use cold compresses. Cold compresses may be
used immediately after treatment to reduce swelling only if needed. This may be
applied for 3 minutes, 3 times per day, for up to 3 days. This is best done
with a bag of peas in a zip lock bag. Only apply light pressure to the area but
gentle massage might be necessary if the bump is from the filler material
itself. Get Arnica gel if you can find some and apply a few times a day as well
to help treat any swelling. Avoid any blood thinners. Bruising can also last
1-2 weeks. I don't recommend hyaluronidase this early and wait a few weeks
until the swelling has resolved. If it is persistent or you are worried, set up
a follow up appointment with your dermatologist.

Hello Satii007,Each surgeon or injector has his or her preference for the lips.  I prefer to err on the side of conservatism and very rarely inject a full syringe of Juvederm into the lips.  If the patient ever wants more we can always come back and add more.  Now there is swelling that will take place immediately after the injection.  This can last for up to two weeks.  I would wait at least 2 weeks to allow the swelling to go down before considering anything that removes the product.  You should also discuss your concerns with your injector to see what the is natural course of swelling in his or her patients following injection. Dear Satii007, Your lips are still swollen from the injections themselves and some of the fullness will dissipate in the next few days however you should have a nice result and can always add more at a later date if needed. Best regards, Michael V. Elam, M.D.

You are still swollen from the injections, which is to be expected.  The lips tend to swell, but once the swelling is gone, you may love your lips.  Give it some time for the final result.
