I got two consultations for breast augmentation and liposuction of abdomen. One doctor said he can only remove 1 liter of fat when combining lipo with breast augmentation by Florida law. The other doctor said she can remove 5 liters by law. I'm confuse and don't know who I should trust.

Answer: Liposuction maximum volume depends on facility In the state of Florida, Dr. Blinski is correct, the maximum allowable liposuction when combined with a second procedure is 1 liter. But this is a rule for Office Surgery Facilities. If the procedure is performed in a hospital or AHCA certified Ambulatory Surgery Center, this rule does not apply. Most plastic surgeons who operate in their own facilities have Office Surgery Facilities. A few surgeons in the state, like myself, have built AHCA certified ambulatory surgery centers which allows us to perform larger liposuction volumes legally. The facilities have a more complex and detailed licensing and accreditation process similar to those that hospitals have to go through. It is still advised that liposuction that exceeds 4-5 liters should not be performed in an outpatient setting in one procedure, as one then gets into the realm of high volume liposuction which can become a more major and risky procedure. Even though we are legally allowed to perform high volumes of liposuction in our facility, I think it is still prudent not to combine too many procedures at once or perform excessive amounts of liposuction, either alone or with other procedures.
