Should I dissolve my filler before a lip lift?

Hi, I have a little less than 1 syringe of Volbella in my upper lip that was placed in January. I am considering a lip lift at the end of April. For best results, should I have this dissolved beforehand?

Hello Waffle123~Thanks for your question.  I usually recommend dissolving filler in all my patients a couple weeks before the procedure.  Any residual filler that is left can affect the symmetry and shape of the lip, and that could affect the design of the incision.  However, by April you probably will not have much filler left in your lips.  Please make sure to let your surgeon know you had filler injected so that they can best decide how to customize your care.Best wishes!Amy Hsu

Most patients who are coming in for facial cosmetic surgical procedures have tried injections with either toxins or fillers to find their desired look.  The upper lip lift is designed for patients that have a long upper lip with minimal incisor show.  The filler in the upper lip can add volume giving the illusion that the upper lip length is shortened b/c you are noticing more of the red lip.  An ideal situation is doing surgery at baseline conditions without any toxins or fillers in place.  With that said, in my busy practice I can't remember the last time I did a lip lift without a product in place.  Make sure you tell your plastic surgeon all of the procedures you have had so they may formulate an individualized surgical plan.

Thank you for your question. I suggest that you consult with the board certified facial plastic surgeon that completed your filler in January. Keep in mind that the filler will add volume, and is temporary while the lip lift is a more long-term solution. Please post photos on this site as well.
