When can I use scar ointment post tummy tuck? (Photos)

Every surgeon has different post op instructions, I tell my patients they can start with scar creams after 6 weeks, consult with your PS.

For my patients having a tummy tuck procedure, I recommend they use a silicone based scar cream called biocorneum, when all of the surgical glue comes off of the incisions. The glue usually comes off on its own, 3-4 weeks post surgery. I recommend discussing specific ointments and creams to use post surgery with your plastic surgeon. Best of luck!

Dear boricua592,every plastic surgeon has his own postoperative protocol which he recommends to his patients. I recommend my patients to use the scar gel after week 6. I would suggest you to discuss this with your plastic surgeon.Daniel Barrett, MD

Thank you for your question. I recommend my patients start using scar cream when their steri-strips come off or are removed. Sometimes patients use aquaphor or vaseline for a couple of days after steri-strips come off to get rid of any scabs/dry blood that may remain. Once that process is complete, I recommend applying Silagen to the scar once in the morning and once in the evening for up to 6 months. 

This is definitely a question to ask your surgeon as we all have different preferences.  I recommend patients begin treating their scar once surgical tapes have come off and all incisions are completely sealed which is usually around the 3-4 week mark.  However, please follow your surgeon's recommendations.  Good luck with your upcoming surgery!
