If I want to have rhinoplasty. I wonder if mine could be done without weir excision if I want my nose narrower and smaller tip. I´m afraid of nasty scar tissue forming on the side of nostrils.
Answer: Weir excision Based on the pictures you provided it does not appear that you need weir excisions. These are done to reduce the width of the base of the nose (narrowing the nostrils) or in flaring wide nostrils. You should discuss it with your surgeon if it is a concern and if there would be benefits in your case. A desire by somme patients for a subtle improvement in the shape of the nostrils sometimes necessitates it. In good hands it should heal well with imperceptible scars. It can also be done as an office procedure with local anesthetic at a later time if needed.

Answer: Is Weir excision (alar base excision) performed every time during rhinoplasty? No. Alar base or Weir excisions are only performed when the base of the nose is too wide or when the nostrils excessively flare. The incisions typically heal very nicely but need to be precisely placed and very carefully repaired. Based on the two photos you've posted, I don't think that you would require alar base excisions but you should pose this question during rhinoplasty consultation for a more specific answer. I hope this information is helpful for you.Stephen Weber MD, FACSDenver Facial Plastic Surgeon

Answer: Open rhinoplasty versus closed rhinoplasty for narrower nose and smaller tip A weir incision theis performed when an alar plasty is required, which narrows the nostrils. The incision can be placed inside the nostril or at the nostril junction. An open rhinoplasty creates an incision across the columella. Closed rhinoplasty involves all the incisions placed on the inside of the nose. Closed rhinoplasty techniques alleviate any nasty scar tissue on the outside of the nose. For many examples of closed rhinoplasty, please see the link and video below

Answer: Yes Yes, you can have a rhinoplasty without having Weir excisions. Consult your doctor about your wishes and fears. Weir excisions could be done as a separate procedure if you and your surgeon decide that you need them after a primary rhinoplasty.

Answer: Weir excisions Hi there. Weir excisions, or alar base narrowing procedures, are used only when the base of your nose is too wide for your face. Sometimes this is pre-existing, and sometimes it occurs following dramatic deprojection of the nasal tip. Based on these views, I don't think you would need an alar base reduction. Definitely share your concerns with your surgeon when you go for a consult.Good luck!
