Is it normal for the nose tip to be bigger at 5 months after rhinoplasty?

My nose still fluctuates at 5 months after closed rhinoplasty .. i have days were my nose looks great and days were my nose is very swollen and swelling is worse on weekdays when i go to school and when i wake up from sleeping than in weekends. My nose tip and the middle third of the nose are still stiff and hard is this normal ?

It's still too soon to tell what your final results will be. You need to have patience with your body as it begins to heal. The skin, bone and cartilage are all traumatized during surgery. Inflammation (swelling) is the normal response and will help your nose to heal and look beautiful in the end. If, one year from now, you are unhappy with your nose, then that is the time to think about a revision procedure. Right now, concentrate on other things you like to do and let your nose take its time to heal. I hope this helps.

Tip swelling is very unusual after a closed rhinoplasty. In an open rhinoplasty it can take up to 12 months for the tip to settle down but swelling for this period is unusual after a closed procedure. I would return to your surgeon for assessment and advice.

It is typical to have swelling after rhinoplasty that can last 6-12 months.  This can fluctuate and be worse certain days than others or certain times within the day.  Often the tip of the nose holds onto swelling the longest.  Try to be patient as you are still reasonably early in the healing process.

Hi and thanks for your question. Typically, the initial swelling after nose surgery subsides within two to three weeks. However, residual swelling, especially in the tip of the nose, can take about a year to resolve as the contour refines. Swelling can also vary through the day, being more prominent in the morning. What you're experiencing is normal. Be sure to follow up with your surgeon if your concerns continue.

As you have experienced, changes occur over the course of rhinoplasty healing. At first, the nose looks too "fat" and too "up," especially at the tip. Most of the dropping happens early, but there can still be significant changes over the full year and beyond. The stiffness and numbness in the tip is normal for up to a year and even beyond in some patients. Stay patient and keep in touch with your surgeon if you have questions or concerns at anytime.
