FUT scar healing normally? Had procedure on Dec 28, 2018. (photos)

Question

I had FUT procedure dec 28 2018. I am just curious is this how my scar is going to look, or will those vertical red lines intersecting the horizontal scar go away in the future? Just wondering if this looks normal, my surgeon said a couple of weeks ago that scar looks like its healing normally, and I would just like some more opinions, it would be much appreciated! also, it seems/feels like there are some small scabs over the scar

Dear rizzo905,Thank you for posting this question. It looks normal to me, aside from one aspect of the scar, and that is the vertical red intersecting lines that make it look a bit like "train tracks". Those may never go away, and are the locations of the actual stitches that were placed in this area. To my eyes the "throws" are a little large, and it appears that a fairly generous amount of tissue was purchased with each throw of the suture (eg: more physical volume of tissue was taken by the suture to approximate the wound edges). I'm guessing that when it was a fresh wound the throws were larger, sort of like the stitches on a football. The way some do it, including me, is to take much smaller purchases with the suture so as to avoid any train-track appearance. See the video below. All that being said, understand that scars continue to mature for quite some time following a repair, and will remodel and get smaller and fade to a lighter scar for months. It's about 80% there at 6 months, and will take fully 1 year to get into it's final appearance, perhaps even 18 months. This timing is the nature of the human body and cannot really be altered by medicines or other procedures, so at this point, your best bet is to just give it time. FUT scars heal according to how they are cut to begin with and then stiched back together. Facial plastic surgeons specialize in repairing facial wounds and therefore likely to have the minimal scarring compared to other doctors like Dermatologists that perform FUT surgeries.

It is too early to tell how this scar will finally heal. The surgeon used sutures far from the leading edge of the wound which tends to cause hair loss and track lines.  Only time will tell
