Juvederm fillers hard lump 4 month later. (photos)

In my experience, late swelling after filler injections is becoming more and more common. Many patients first notice this after being sick when their immune system is "probably "revved up. In most cases the swelling will resolve on its own within a few days. Oral steroids can often help the swelling improve more quickly. If the swelling does not resolve, dissolving the filler with hyaluronidase may be necessary.

I recommend following up with your Doctor for a formal evaluation. If necessary, this can be reversed with hyaluronidase. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

In most patients this is usually related to swelling and may take several weeks to resolve. Unfortunately in some cases, these lumps may be related to uneven injection of Juvederm. However, in your case, this may be due infection. Your doctor may want to dissolve the filler with an enzyme known as hyaluronidase. I recommend you follow up with your physician for an evaluation. It is advisable to visit with either your primary care physician or your injector for an evaluation.  The symptoms you describe are not common four months after injection.

Thank you for the photo and question.  I would see your Injector to assess .   It is not something that the juvederm would do at this point but needs to be looked at.  

Thanks for your question!  Some other dermatologists and I were just discussing this the other night. There have been an increasing number of reports of patients having firm, nodular like swelling in an area of prior Juvederm injection following a bout of a viral or bacterial infection. It even happened in the lips to a dermatologist whom I know personally! We are not sure what is causing this to happen, but it seems to be more common with Juvederm Ultra Plus and Voluma. It does NOT appear to be permanent.  It may respond to oral prednisone tablets. If not, then it could potentially be dissolved with hyaluronidase injections.  I suggest you go back to your physician injector or consult with someone who has experience managing this situation. Thank you very much for your question and picture.
If there is pain (throbbing) and tenderness my concern would be infection and really it needs treatment fairly quickly with hyalase and antibiotics by an expert in this field.
If there is no pain and tenderness just make sure that it is juvederm that you had and not something else as this reaction is very odd. (I have injected thousands of vials of juvederm and not seen it happen)
Initially leave well alone until you are better then disperse with hyalase if not settling in 3-4 months. Kind RegardsDr Dinesh Maini

I would see the doctor that treated you. That is not normal for the area treated with Juvederm to get swollen when you have a cold
