I had a large lipoma removed from my abdomen 3 months ago, which resulted in a hematoma. When I went to get my stitches out, my doctor drained 20 ccs of blood. Unfortunately, I still have a golf ball-sized (hardish) lump. Is this normal? Removal of this thing took nearly an hour and seemed to present more of a challenge than the doctor anticipated.

Answer: Lump Dear CWHughes,I understand your concern. However, without a proper assessment it would be difficult to determine what is wrong. It is best that you visit your plastic surgeon for further assessment. Only after thorough examination you can get proper recommendations and advice.Daniel Barrett, MD Certified, American Board of Plastic Surgery Member, American Society of Plastic Surgery Member, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery

Answer: Lump 3 months after Lipoma removal You may still have a chronic hematoma/fluid collection (seroma). Less likely would be that the mass has come back or was incompletely removed. You need to be re-evaluated by your surgeon. Best wishes.
