Scared of weight gain post-op. When can I get start exercising and what kind of exercise is safe?

I currently workout 5-6 times a week burning around 400 calories per day either by running or elliptical machine. I’ve read no exercising for 4-6 weeks and I’m scared of losing all my abs, muscle and gaining weight! So my question is what’s the general rule going back to exercise timeline wise and what kind of exercise is safe?
