Swapping/replace chin implant out for bigger one?

Question

When I originally had my surgery, my surgeon told me he could not fit the larger and more preferred implant because the skin would not close. He put in the biggest one he could. Now, about a year later, I'm wondering if the skin is stretched enough to allow a larger implant?

The first thing to do is find out the material of the chin implant.There's a big difference in ease of removal / replacement with a silastic implant versus mersilene mesh or Medpor for example.Assuming the current implant is relatively easy to remove, then upsizing at the same time should not be too much of an issue now that you are over a year out from the original procedure.  The other consideration is the placement of the incision from your original surgery.  If you had an incision under the chin just remember that it will move forward and potentially be a little bit more visible with a larger implant.

Swapping a smaller chin implant for a larger one can be done at the same time. If you are looking to go smaller or the implant is crooked, I prefer removing the smaller or crooked implant and letting the bed heal. We can then go back in three to 6 months and put in a smaller or straighter implant.

A chin implant can be removed and replaced with a larger one. In fact I that last week on a patient who had a small, short implant placed by another surgeon 6 years ago.
