I really like her jaw line as it is steep but also has a nice projected chin which I would love. I would like to get an idea of what procedure I would need to give me that kind of jaw line/chin. I've heard of a sliding genioplasty and would rather do something that alters my own bone than an implant. Thanks
Answer: Chin Implant There are several options but without seeing you in person there is no way to be sure which options are most optimal for you. Jaw surgery tends to work on moving the mandible forward. It is a large surgery and will have an impact on your teeth. You can give the illusion of a stronger jaw line by manipulating the chin. This can be done with either an implant or sliding the bone forward with Oral Surgery. I am a big fan of the chin implant as it is quick, easy and can lead to very natural results if done correctly. There are many different chin implant shapes and sizes that could be specifically sized for you, in ways that will leave you with a very natural looking chin. Additionally if one has extra fat in the neck and jawline then removal via conservative lipo and further enhance the jawline. Hope this has helped with your decision.

Answer: Chin implant versus sliding genioplasty A chin implant can be inserted for cosmetic improvement to bring the mandible forward when there is a recessive chin present. Chin implants are inserted through a sub mental approach under local anesthesia as an outpatient surgical procedure. Chin implants are composed of Silastic in a manufacturing variety of sizes and shapes. A sliding genioplasty is performed by an oral surgeon under general anesthesia as an inpatient procedure at a hospital.

Answer: Jawline and chin enhancement Thank you for the photo and your question. To achieve a more defined chin and anterior jawline (pre-jowl area), I use an extended anatomical chin implant. This is placed through an incision under the chin and can be performed with light sedation. Choosing the right implant shape and size makes all the difference!

Answer: Sliding Genioplasty for Jawline Enhancement A sliding genioplasty is exactly the procedure that will lengthen your jawline and provide more chin projection. It will also keep your chin more narrow in the front view unlike an implant which can often make it wider.

Answer: Sliding genioplasty versus chin implant to improve chin projection A sliding genioplasty is a rather aggressive surgery and is usually done in conjunction with surgery to reposition the entire jaw and possibly maxilla to improve occlusion. While a genioplasty can be done as a standalone procedure an implant will give you equal if not better results with faster recovery and the option to reverse it. You should also understand that a sliding genioplasty involves implants of metal plates and screws to hold the bone in place.Your first step is to obtain evaluation of your occlusion from an oral surgeon. If it is decided that your occlusion is best corrected with orthographic surgery a sliding genioplasty will make the most sense. If you choose not to have orthographic surgery then an implant is a simpler and often more effective treatment to improve the appearance of the chin.Best wishes
