What is the success rate of the fat transfer under eyes? How often do fat balls or some other complication occur?

pendavis  So sorry you are having this problem.  Fat or fillers under the eyes is tricky because the eyelid skin is the thinnest of the entire body.  The filler or fat must be placed right on the orbital bone below the eyes.  Fat can cause small lobules that are unattractive usually must be removed surgically.  If possible go with filler like Juvederm Ultra plus, for better, more reliable control. Fat transfer can be done to the lower lids.  It is not as forgiving as doing the cheeks because the skin is so thin and you can easily see any irregularities.  Some patients can develop firm lumps of fat which are very difficult to eliminate.  It is very important to see someone who does a lot of fat to the lids as there are some techniques which can help to minimize these issues.HA fillers are a great way to fill here.  And if you don't like the appearance easy to reverse. 

This is an excellent question.  In my practice, I perform this procedure often for hollowness under the eyes.  I also perform it under local anesthesia as well with great results.  It is long lasting and much better than fillers in this area if properly done.Many physicians are not comfortable performing fat transfer in this area due to the high complication rate.  The eyelid anatomy is complex and the skin is so thin, irregularities are easily seen.  The fat must be placed carefully and properly for a good result.  Again, many doctors are uncomfortable in this area for fat transfer.Also, I do correct problems in this area from other doctors.  If lumps and irregularities occur, they can be corrected.  Each case is unique and individualized.  The good news is a correction can be performed if the right hands.  I hope this helps.
