Aside from stimulating the collagen, can this type of filler be used to widen the mandible angles like radiesse? I'm looking for a more cost effective approach so any advice would really help me. Thank you.
Answer: Can Sculptra Augment Bone Structure? Sculptra Can Build Up Cheekbones, Temples, Chin and Jawline Sculptra is a versatile dermal filler that is also a collagen stimulator. It is thick and viscous, making it a perfect filler to create nonsurgical augmentations, such as chins, jawlines, and cheekbones. Consulting with a board-certified dermatologist who is an expert in re-contouring the face with Sculptra will get you optimal results.

Answer: Can Sculptra be used to augment actual bone structure? Thank you for sharing your excellent question. Though Sculptra will not stimulate any bone growth it can increase your mandibular angle through its effects on your facial soft tissues. If you prefer a filler that more closely resembles bone then Radiesse is a good choice. Hope this helps.

Answer: Can Sculptra be used to augment actual bone structure? No, Sculptra cannot augment actual bone structure. But it can make the bony architecture support the face better, by tightening and firming the skin which covers the bone! This is an important fact about Sculptra, and makes it unique among injectables. Unlike fillers, which fill a space and then are removed by the body, Sculptra strengthens the deep layers of the skin and "tightens the tent" to cover a range of aging issues. The effects of Sculptra can last for years. Sculptra is best when added to a comprehensive program of wrinkle reduction, fillers, and absorbable threads, to work synergistically to reduce the signs of aging. Best to you Gregg Kennedy, MD

Answer: Sculptra for bony augmentation Dear Elliott,Sculptra is not considered to be a bone augmenting material. As you have alluded, it stimulates collagen production, which primarilly resides in the skin and soft tissues. Radiesse, on the other hand, is made of calcium hydroxylappatite, a substance more compatible with the minerals found in bone, and is therefore a better bone augmenting choice. However, widening the mandibular angles can be achieved with Sculptra, by augmenting the soft tissues over the mandibular angles. In my practice, the costs would be equivalent. Good luck!
