Can Sculptra be used on younger patients with thin skin?

 Dermal fillers can be used at any age over 18 years, as long as there is a need. However, Sculptra is a biostimulator that is not appropriate for the tear troughs due to the increased risk of developing nodules in that area. The thin eyelid skin and the circular motion of the orbicularis oculi muscles can result in small bumps. Similarly, Sculptra is not good for the lips because of the risk of nodules in another circular muscle group.  A soft, thin hyaluronic acid (HA) filler such as Restylane Silk, Belotero or Vollure can add volume to hollows under the eyes. If you don’t have hollows, but only dark circles, an HA filler wouldn’t be the right choice to improve the look of your eyes. There are other options to improve discoloration under the eyes, including lasers. Please find a board-certified dermatologist to take a look at your dark eye circles and come up with an effective treatment plan. 

Sculptra has many applications, for clients of all ages and skin types, tho the one area to be avoided with Sculptra would be the under eye area, as it can possibly leave small bumps that are difficult to manage. Under eye products to consider would be the hyaluronic fillers that provide and much smoother appearance, and also have the added plus of being dissolvable, if necessary.Regards, Dr.G

Sculptra can be used on young and old patients, and those with thin or thick skin.  I would not recommend using Sculptra under the eyes however, because the skin is very thin there in everyone and it is possible to develop visible irregularity after the treatment.  I prefer to use hyaluronic acid fillers, such as Restylane, under the eyes.  I find this gives a much better result and the effect can last for a year or so in that area.
