Can Sculptra be used on younger patients with thin skin?

 Dermal fillers can be used at any age over 18 years, as long as there is a need. However, Sculptra is a biostimulator that is not appropriate for the tear troughs due to the increased risk of developing nodules in that area. The thin eyelid skin and the circular motion of the orbicularis oculi muscles can result in small bumps. Similarly, Sculptra is not good for the lips because of the risk of nodules in another circular muscle group.  A soft, thin hyaluronic acid (HA) filler such as Restylane Silk, Belotero or Vollure can add volume to hollows under the eyes. If you don’t have hollows, but only dark circles, an HA filler wouldn’t be the right choice to improve the look of your eyes. There are other options to improve discoloration under the eyes, including lasers. Please find a board-certified dermatologist to take a look at your dark eye circles and come up with an effective treatment plan. 

Sculptra has many applications, for clients of all ages and skin types, tho the one area to be avoided with Sculptra would be the under eye area, as it can possibly leave small bumps that are difficult to manage. Under eye products to consider would be the hyaluronic fillers that provide and much smoother appearance, and also have the added plus of being dissolvable, if necessary.Regards, Dr.G

Sculptra can be used on young and old patients, and those with thin or thick skin.  I would not recommend using Sculptra under the eyes however, because the skin is very thin there in everyone and it is possible to develop visible irregularity after the treatment.  I prefer to use hyaluronic acid fillers, such as Restylane, under the eyes.  I find this gives a much better result and the effect can last for a year or so in that area.  

Thank you for sharing your excellent question.  Although Sculptra can be used in younger patients to help add/restore volume to soft tissues it is not recommended in and around the eye region.  I would advocate or a thin hyaluronic acid filler such as Vollure.  Hope this helps.

The best solution for this would be hyaluronic acid gels. The result can be extremely successful.

Thank you for your question. I would not use Sculptra under the eyes. Sculptra is best for larger areas where you desire a significant amount of added volume such as sunken cheeks. I recommend using a dermal filler such as Restylane or Juvederm instead. I recommend getting an in-person consultation with a board-certified dermatologist. 

Sculptra is a great product for volumization of the cheeks and mid face as well as the jawline. It is not a good treatment for the eye area as there is a high risk for lumps and bumps. I would avoid this product unless you specifically want to volumize other parts of your face. Best of luck. 

While sculptra can be of value to some young patients with thin skin who would benefit from more volume (e.g. marathon runners), it is not recommended for treatment under the eyes.  Dark circles are frustrating to patients and can be very difficult to treat.  A thin, small particle filler, such as belotero, volbella, even restylane may be helpful in the tear troughs.  Some patients may see improvement from light or laser therapies.  Topical treatments may also have a role.  Consider a formal consultation with an experienced plastic surgeon or dermatologist to discuss your options.  Best of luck!
